Troubleshooting Common Commercial Fridge Faults
Commercial refrigeration units are expected to carry a heavy load. They are larger and more complex than domestic fridges and work to keep large amounts of stock cold for 24 hours every day. Regular maintenance is necessary and occasional niggles are known to occur.

1. Power Problems
If you find that your fridge isn’t powering up, first check that it is properly plugged in and switched on, check the power supply to see if the wiring is damaged or loose. In addition to physically checking the wiring (after unplugging of course) use a voltage meter to check that power is in fact going to the fridge.
2. Freezing & Ice Formation
There should never be any ice in your fridge. If ice does form, check your evaporator fan to see if it is working properly and if it is clean. Also, make sure the drain lines are clear.
3. Temperature Problems
If your fridge’s temperature is too high, the problem may be something as simple as the unit is too close to the wall. Fridges need space around them to allow the compressors to work properly. Check that the fridge is not right up against the wall. Also, check the door gaskets, and make sure that the temperature control gauge works properly.

4. Compressor Issues
Dirty compressors will not be able to function properly. If you find that your fridge is not cooling your stock properly it could be that your compressor needs to be cleaned. Check it and then be sure to clean it at least once every 90 days.
Prevent Problems Before They Begin
Prevention, maintenance and consistency are the keys to keeping your fridges working at their optimum. Check all parts of your fridge regularly – the compressors, thermostats and gaskets in particular. Clean the fridge often and ensure that maintenance takes place routinely. If you follow these steps, your fridge should work without problems for years
